Abstract
|
|
|
Acute leukemia is rare in infancy but has an increased incidence in newborns with
Down's syndrome. The signs and symptoms of this disorder are clinically and
hematologically indistinguishable from true congenital leukemia except for its complete
spontaneous recovery within weeks to months from onset. In Korea, there are no reports
of transient leukemia or transient myeloproferative disorder in a neonate with Down's
syndrome.
Authors experienced a case of transient myeloproliferative disorder in a 30-day-old
male infant with Down's syndrome. Specific chemotherapy was withheld, and in contrast
to the regular outcome of true congenital leukemia, hematologic recovery occurred within
three months of diagnosis.
